Current facts require current sources.
How The Overreaction Desk ranks, verifies, stores, and displays sports sources.
Source tiers
Tier 1 contains official league, team, conference, NCAA, box-score, and statement sources. Tier 2 contains major national reporting. Tier 3 contains established local and specialist reporting. Tier 4 contains fan discussion and aggregators and may be used only for sentiment or topic discovery.
Verification thresholds
A postgame article requires a final status, the exact score from two sources, at least one Tier 1 or Tier 2 source, confirmed key statistics, and confirmation that the game was not suspended or corrected. Breaking news requires two reputable sources or an official announcement plus one reputable report.
Conflicts
When sources disagree, we seek primary and newer official information and do not publish a definitive claim while the disagreement remains material.
Reader visibility
Article sources are visible and clickable. Transactions, injuries, contract details, discipline, quotations, disputed statistics, and playoff implications receive inline attribution when useful.
